Mahssa Abdolahi has received a B.Sc. in condensed matter physics and an M.Sc. in atomic and molecular physics from Azad University in Tehran. She joined Prof. Bozena Kaminska's research group in 2014 and started her study in nano-optics engineering. Her main focus is centered on developing a new medium for long-term eye-readable full colour optical archival storage using state-of-the-art design and nanofabrication techniques. Today, in the big data and IoT (internet of things) era, colossal volume of information is generated by various organizations such as cloud data centers, which needs to be securely archived on off-line back-ups for future generations without the risk of being lost or altered by internet-based attacks. While optical digital information storage media provide an ever-growing storage capacity and data transfer rate, they may become inaccessible due to incompatibility with the new reading devices. Therefore, archiving information on the conventional optical digital storage media needs a very costly process of periodic data migration. In order to avoid the latter process, an eye-readable optical archival storage approach is required. Currently, various options are under research for developing color eye-readable optical archival media. However, a reliable color eye-readable optical archival medium has not been achieved so far. For this purpose, Mahssa has been working on devising a new color eye-readable optical archival medium based on selectively activated generic pixelated SU-8 nanostructures. She has successfully stored color images and texts on the developed medium using the concept of diffractive structural colors. She also intends to reinforce her research by extending this work to recording sound using the developed techniques and medium.
